Definition
AI visibility is the degree to which your content can be retrieved, understood and cited by large language models and AI-powered search engines.
It is not a ranking. There is no position ten in an AI answer. A page is either usable as a source or it is not — and most of what decides that happens before any model reads a word of your argument.
Why AI Visibility Matters
Search sends a user to your page. An assistant answers from your page. In the second case the value you capture depends entirely on whether the model can reach, parse and attribute your content, and each of those can fail on its own.
A page can be blocked at the firewall while robots.txt allows it. It can be fetched but unreadable because the content only exists after JavaScript runs. It can be readable but unstructured, so nothing can be lifted out of it. From the outside, all three failures look identical: silence.
Example
hey-eye measures AI visibility as a weighted score across four pillars:
| Pillar | Weight | Question it answers |
|---|---|---|
| Structural Integrity | 30% | Is the page well formed? |
| AI Extractability | 35% | Can facts be lifted out of it? |
| Content Clarity | 15% | Is it readable without effort? |
| Authority & Trust | 20% | Is there a reason to believe it? |
